EUROVISION RETROSPECTIVES
This activity will look back at Eurovisions past. The idea is that we, as OGAE Rest of the World, will cast our own votes as members on the songs, and decide our club’s favourite for the year. We will run this monthly for the most part, and each year will be randomly drawn.
Every month, with the exclusion of May and September, a random draw will choose a past Eurovision Song Contest. We will post the link to the video of the contest for members to watch, and then cast their votes on their favourites.
While previously, different voting systems were used, we will maintain the current 12, 10, 8-1point vote.
In our monthly newsletter, we will inform of the year that was randomly drawn, as well as the results of the previous month’s retrospective. We will run this from the start of the month for approximately 25 days, to allow for tallying of voting and reporting of results.
We will continue to host online “Watch Parties”, if members are interested in accessing these ongoing. Currently, these are hosted on the following day/time (usually the third weekend of the month):
Sunday - 7:00pm AEDST/AEST - Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time/Australian Eastern Standard Time
Sunday - 3pm EDT/EST - Eastern Daylight Time/Eastern Standard Time (USA)
We cannot guarantee that we will be able to meet everyone’s wishes, but we will do everything we can.
Each activity will be available until the 26th of the month to cast votes.
Casting your vote will earn you 5 points. (Per month if participating in each Retrospective)
APRIL 2022:
1993… The hair, the balladry, Sonia! What a bit of fun it was…

So 1996 turned out to be quite the mixed bag, with some delirious voting choices, but there certainly were some diamonds in there. The best in show absolutely had to be Ingvild, our host during the vote count, who managed a lot of hilarity and great banter to keep it extremely entertaining!
The results have been tallied, and passed through the quality assurance phase. We are ready to reveal who our members really enjoyed retrospectively! First, check out the video of our top 5 by the wonderful member, David, by clicking here!

febrUARY 2022:
Wasn’t 1989 was a mixed bag; some fabulous, some frightening, some fair-to-middling, but the big hair and shoulder pads was worth every second, as was Celine’s opening number!!!
Finally, the results have been tallied and the winner is… announced along with the top 5 entries in this incredible video from our amazing members, Danie and Mark (with a special guest vocalist at the very end). Check it our here!

JANUARY 2022:
This month, we once again turn away from our lucky-dip to randomly select a year to review.
Instead, after their amazing win in 2021, we are looking back at all the entries for Italy since the beginning. Each song required a score out of 10 to provide equity to years gone by.
Finally, the results have been tallied and the winner is… announced along with the other top 10 Italian entries.

1991 saw Malta return for the first time since 1975! It was the first time Germany entered as a united country following the fall of the Berlin wall, and is the last time Yugoslavia represented as a Socialist Republic! 22 nations shared the stage - and we had a tie! Sweden and France both scored 146 points, it was only on count-back that Sweden was crowned - both cou tries received 4 12 points, but Sweden received 5 sets of 10 points to France's 2!
Our club has voted. The results have been verified, and you can watch the amazing video by our fabulous member, Danitza from Chile, announcing our top 5 placings - click here!

1970 saw several countries boycott the contest with the previous year allowing 4 countries to share the win! So only 12 nations shared the stage - and we had one of the speediest contests ever, in just over an hour, the entire show was done!
Our club has voted. The results have been verified, and you can watch the absolutely awesome video by our talented Christopher B announcing our placings - click here!
