My Eurovision guilty pleasure is "No Rules!" by Windows95man from Finland. First I have to talk about the performance, it’s an absurd spectacle—a man emerging from a denim egg, wearing a t-shirt censoring his lower half, The entire performance is a glorious, chaotic fever dream. That being said, the performance did block my appreciation of the song for a long time. One day the track came on a playlist and I instantly was like "What song is this?!" I was shocked to find out it was the song from Windows95man! That's when I was finally able to see past the ridiculous performance and appreciate the song. The song itself is a simple, pulsing earworm that gets stuck in your head for days.
It's my guilty pleasure for two main reasons. First, the song is not what you’d call musically sophisticated. It’s pure, unadulterated bubblegum pop mixed with a 90s dance beat. There's no deep lyrical meaning or complex chord progressions. Secondly, having grown to love the song, the performance has grown on me too. It is so camp and unserious that I feel I should be championing something with more gravitas. But I guess that's why it's a guilty pleasure!
